September 22, 2011
(9:00am)
I see getting to school after or at 7:40, even if it's not yet 7:50, to be late. My father sees being at school at 7:45 to be the earliest I should be at school. He also doesn't want me to leave the house before 7:20. It takes me at the least (if I'm really booking it and my bag isn't heavy) 21 minutes. I like to be able to get to school at the least at 7:35 so I can relax and talk to my friends. Can we see a clash here?

(5:10pm)
I'm ready to go. I'm standing out front waiting for my sisters. Why are they so slow? Now they're here and walking slow.

(5:17pm)
Jason Gibbert, get your stuff together!!! Gibbert called Jacquynn and asked her to bring an iron with her. Question: If Atlas is the best house, why is it that not everyone is organized? Hyperion ALL way!!!!

(5:21pm)
Still waiting for my sisters to catch up (thanks a lot, Gibbert). Future note: If y'all don't hear about me telling off Jason, just assume I'm showing mercy and restraint.

(5:24pm)
This is why I walk alone. My sisters are getting on all my nerves with their incessant bickering, singing, and complaining.

(5:27pm)
I'm walking and typing at the same time. I'm on on the sidewalk now, but it's still not safe.

(5:31pm)
We should have left at 5:00 like I said. Now we're late.

(5:38am)
I probably look crazy. I've been dancing to Michael Jackson while I was walking. I'm also covered in a bunch of tiny flies. I kept walking through thick clouds of them. They're on my shirt, face, and eyes. Now I feel like a car windshield without wipers.

(6:09pm)
Turns out we didn't have to be here until 6. Anyways, I get to be one of the representatives for my house to light the new AVID scholars' candles. I just have to say I pass the AVID torch of perseverance to you every time I light one. There's close to 70 new scholars, divide by 8 (for the 7 other seniors) that's about 10. But each scholar is supposed to light 3 other scholars next to them, so I don't know. About to start.

(9:14pm)
Even though we'll probably write about this in class, I'm gonna write about tonight anyways while it's fresh on my mind. This was probably my favorite induction. I'm a senior, I got to take a part in passing the torch to underclassmen, got some people I know in my house, and it was the shortest one (just an hour and 5 or 6 minutes). I am a little upset (and surprised) that Ebony McPherson didn't get in Hyperion. When I heard her say that she wanted to be in Hyperion, I thought Cool, I hope we have the same house. That'd be so awesome. But she's not. Now I can't constantly bug her with Ebony and Ivory. I swear, if I find a kid out there whose name is Ivory, I'm gonna introduce them. She'll probably hit me and hate me for it, but I think it'd be fun. She's cool beans though. I didn't know she drew and wrote stories. I might have to see if she'll show me. Her father's funny, too. Here's a pic of her father reciting the AVID parents' response to her.

She was so embarrassed, mostly because of the things he was saying. My phone camera is kinda crappy in dim lit places. I also have Chrysta in my house. I forgot a pen tonight (only time I forget to bring a pen) to mark everyone who's in my house. I only got Ms. Dauka's 11th grade class: Katie Cosby, Martin Davis, Shamara Kennedy, Maurice Lowery, Debonique Ramos, Bria Timmons, and Terence Williams. I know some of them. I'll get the rest of the names and pictures (and maybe even profiles and essays) from Doña. One girl (Jamee Lopez) was excited about her house. She was right behind me, and as soon as they said what house she was in (Atlas I think), she whispered YES loudly. I actually saw her AVID interview. Coincidentally, Jason Gibbert (from Atlas) was the one who gave the interview. I am, however, mad about one thing. Because my mom had to run around dropping my father off at the doctors and my brother at work AND to a game to be a referee, she wasn't able to attend. She did, however, get to sign the banner made by Ms. Lori. I need to ask he what she majored in. If it's graphic design, we're gonna have a little talk.

Kim's speech

Kim again

(10:26pm)
Some things I missed. Not really anything after the ceremony. Just snuck up behind Yemi and gave her a hug, then hugged Agnes, then went home. So I guess I'll say some things about my day. Today, I saw Arianna cry for the second time since I've known her (the first time, DoñArianna started laughing. I don't know how long I was looking at her (maybe a second, maybe two) before our eyes met. We just smiled, then I turned to watch the American Idol clip. It had something to do with satire. After the clip, we watched some of the commercials that had been done (class project). Some one did shoes (two actually), someone did safe sex (never knew NIKE made condoms), and Khalid Jones' didn't work. Arianna's, she's my best friend and I love her, but hers was kinda long, drawn out, and boring. Then again, she had Mashood Alaka help her. He just wanted some alone time, he didn't know what he was doing. Her's was about 2012 graduation. Best year!!!! It was good. Probably would have been better if Alaka hadn't tried to help her. She wants to see mine. I'm almost done. Just a few more touches. I made it shorter so that it's 2 minutes shorter. Now it's 4 minutes. I also have my Tiffany Evans I'll be there commercial on standby.

(11:04pm)
Wow. How could I forget about Tiffany. It's so sad that she couldn't make it tonight. We never did light a candle in her honor. I'll light one tomorrow....if someone has a candle. She was greatly missed. I think I might also make a card for her. It'd only take me about 5 minutes. It would be decorated with the best minds in the best house in AVID. And yes, I do mean the BEST house, the house of HYPERION!!!!
